Today's cheese is white Stilton with apricots. It's crumbly anyway, even before the apricot bits are taken into consideration, so it's absolutely impossible to slice; but it is absolutely amazingly wonderful. (It comes from somewhere in Lancashire, England. Screw the whole "happy cows come from California" advertising campaign; if good cheese comes from happy cows, then the cows in Lancashire must be the happiest cows in the world.)

One of the things I seriously miss about living in the UK is having access to lots of different kinds of really good cheese. Hurrah for Trader Joe's, for bringing at least a little bit of civilisation to this side of the Atlantic. (-:

In a similar vein, Winsleydale with cranberries is an excellent dessert cheese. Also British, also crumbly, also fruit-laden, but other than that completely different.

I love the cranberry Wensleydale (and the regular kind, too)...and I recently had the apricot white Stilton, too. Very yummy. Ah, Trader Joe's the source of good things.

qidane and I wandered around the St Andrews Safeway on Saturday, while waiting for his car tyres to be replaced at Budget next door. On the cheese deli counter they had loads of a festive cheddar with mincemeat. They had some on a tasting tray, so we tried it and I think it is possibly the least pleasant non-cheap cheese that I've experienced. It was just... wrong.

I like cheese with fruit. But I'm not convinced about the practice of mixing dried fruit into the cheese.
