Today I:

* scored 2 lawn tickets to Paul Simon at Tanglewood in June
* drove Mr Diane to the airport for yet another not-fun family thing
* had lunch at the mall & determined that
** "Albany spicy" is about the same level as "Diane spicy"; and
** mall ramen is pretty decent if you set your expectations appropriately
* went shopping:
** investigated duvet covers at Macy's & took some pictures to show Mr Diane
** exercised my Comic Timing Super Power, Pants edition and scored a pair of black corduroys for like 20 bucks(*)
** bought some magazines and a crochet book at Barnes & Noble
* by which time I accidentally ended up having to drive home through Albany rush hour which is thankfully also pretty mild.

(*) the ONE PAIR of black cords in the entire Macy's; in my size; on sale; fit perfectly; and I HAD A COUPON. The cashier didn't even know they had cords in stock. I'm pretty sure some of these magazines cost more than the pants.

Nimbus is very happy with his Macy's bag. I'll try and get pictures.

Tomorrow will be more yarn shop adventures, and turning on the oil heat because yikes is it going to get cold here. I am unsupervised for the next 6 days. Fun!

Today we drove down to Oceanside for an astronomy expo. (Well, Stuart drove. It gets us there faster.) We did not win any of the Fabulous Drawing Prizes; I'm a bit relieved we didn't win anything huge. (Our #1 question for telescope vendors today: Will it fit in a Mini?) We didn't even buy anything, for a change.

Once the morning clouds burned off it got sunny and quite warm. The one thing we did bring back was his-n-hers mild sunburns. :-)

All in all, a great day out. I managed to stay fairly religiously low-carb, and did a hell of a lot of walking, both of which can only help.

In other news, Carmageddon seems to have emphatically failed to come to pass. Traffic on our bit of the 405 was the lightest I've ever seen it, and I've seen similar reports from closer to the affected area. Huzzah!

Hooray!

Signal fixes get the green light

"L.A. officials Wednesday approved traffic improvements for the car-clogged Westside, including traffic signal upgrades at 361 intersections and the addition of 33 left-turn lights."

Particularly regarding the left-turn lights, that's about time!

(It figures, I move away and they fix the place...)

Saturday was dragon boat practice. The race is in just over a month so our fearless leaders are pushing us a bit more. I stopped by the realtor on the way back to drop off one signed thing and pick up another thing to sign. Then I made the mistake of opting for the scenic route home. I'm trying to not get so irked with heavy traffic, but there were several points where it was so backed up we had to sit at green lights, which is apparently where I draw the line.

Later [livejournal.com profile] stuartc and I dropped in on D. and M. that we used to work with. They have a nice, if small, place in Santa Monica. We met their kitties and they gave us boxes. (The lads did, not the cats.) We tried to go to Costco to buy more boxes but they were already closed, which was a shame as I also needed (and now even more desperately need) to put fuel in the car and I would have preferred to do so cheaply.

Sunday started out as a relatively normal day in that we did NOT have to do any realtor things, and we did NOT get up early. Sadly the voice of reason (my husband) insisted it was time to start packing boxes. Have I mentioned lately that we have way too much stuff?

There was a little WoW in there too, but I am still nowhere near level 70.

Also I have been taking lots and lots of Advil, as I was already sore from dragon boating before I even started slinging boxes around.

Despite the horribleness on the 405, I just made it home from work in record time. Using the 405.

Granted, there was still a point where traffic went to hell in a handbasket; but for once that was just AFTER I got off, rather than just before.

Whatever. I'll take it.

Whee!

Whee! The northbound 405 is closed. Apparently a construction crane fell on it.

Hmm, if I start walking now...

(Have I mentioned in the last 5 minutes how tired I am of surprises?)
