Average cat age in Casa Capewell:

January 2021: 15 years 4 months.

December 2021: 7 months.

I should do some graphs, not just average cat age but also voice usage on my phone. There are certain hold musics I will be happy to never hear again in my life.

Mean Mister Monster jumps in the sink, he doesn't think, tryin' to chase bacon
Sits inside and watches the birds
Buries everyone else's turds
Doesn't understand all these words (I hope!)
Such a fuzzy big boy

His brother Loki sits on the sill, he's never ill, he's a happy boy
Climbs up on the back of the chair
Tries to jump up into the air (and misses!)
Likes to chew on his momma's hair
Such a crazy wee boy

Findo spent 2 nights in the cat emergency hospital. This morning his breathing was much worse despite aggressive treatment. We made the decision to let him go.

We got to be there with him at the end. Rest in peace, sweet kitty. You were 17 years and 4-and-a-half months old, which is 5-and-a-half months longer than we expected. We had such a good time.

I've been playing a little bit of World of Warcraft again. There's an event on where you get +17% bonus experience and reputation. I still only have one character at max level. The latest expansion is still a linear boring grind and I've seen it all.

The kittens are growing like little furry weeds. They've just passed 6 months. Nimbus (6 months) briefly outweighed Findo (17), but Findo promptly regained almost a pound and is once again in the lead. I was briefly keeping my bathroom door open, but now Nimbus can jump up onto the counter and apparently toothbrushes are FASCINATING so oh well. That was nice while it lasted. Loki was spotted trying to chin himself up onto the counter by his claws. It didn't look like it was going well. We are already planning to transition them onto adult food in the next few months.

We both took Thanksgiving week off. I have hauled out my main sewing machine (a Brother Strong & Tough) and re-repaired the husband's bathrobe pockets. Sadly the machine is not a Strong & THICK so I had to improvise on some of the more layered bits. Still beats doing it by hand.

Still have not cut out the first skater dress. Will still need to clean & oil the serger as I don't think I've used it since about April. What is time anyway?

I need to post more cat pictures. And get a paid account so I can have more icons.

RIP Zoot. You gave us 13 years of spazziness, cuteness, and occasional hassles.

She was eating a bit less for a few days. Thursday afternoon (2 days ago) she emitted a mighty howl and threw up her breakfast. (Everywhere, as it happened. I had to laugh.) Cats, right? They throw up sometimes. The howl was a bit weird but we thought no more of it. Thursday night she ate most of her dinner.

Friday afternoon she threw up a little bit; Friday night when feeding time rolled around, I discovered this was because she'd only eaten a little, leaving most of her breakfast in her dish. She's always been a very food-motivated cat so this was starting to become alarming.

I tried to entice her with some food last night but she wasn’t interested at all; she even let us touch her and pick her up (also alarming in this cat!). I drove her to the vet this morning and they found a large mass. There was nothing to do, we couldn’t even bring her home and keep her comfortable. We went back and petted her and said goodbye. I told her to say enjoy kitty heaven with all the shrimps, and to say hi to Princess even though we know she doesn't like her.

2021 has been a shit year for cats so far. Just Findo remains, and his kidney disease will probably take him down this year.

Zoot is home from the kitty hospital! Huzzah!

She's confined to the big cage, with the "no jumping" rule in force, and she is currently sulking; but home nonetheless.

The local SPCA always seems to put the birth date of feral cats as the first of whatever month (because there's no real way know any closer than that). So, happy official birthday to Findo Gask, who is officially 4 years old today.

Zoot might also be officially 1 year old today, I'm not sure.

Last night I did some more cross stitch... I got to start TWO new colours, including the last shade of purple! I'm nearly done with the lower half, which is good as the page break is driving me crazy! (I even got to use one of the threads from my existing stash - will wonders never cease! The dark purple, of course.)

Yesterday I had a random bass line stuck in my head. I still have no idea where it actually originated, but today it came to my attention that it's awfully similar to the guitar line from "Nerve" by Shriekback. Yay, one more of life's little mysteries (possibly) solved.

This morning the cats were staring intently out onto the deck. Instead of the usual choices (squirrel; neighbor cat; mass hallucination) there was a tiny kitten out there! Awwwwwwwwww. I'm a little worried for the poor thing. Current plans involve Kitten Rescue Lady (who fortunately makes house calls) and a humane trap. She (the kitten, not the rescue lady) is tiny, looks about 6 weeks old at the absolute most, covered in fleas, and strangely friendly. She has at least one thing in common with Zoot, namely that she's so friendly she wouldn't last 5 minutes in the wild!

ARGH, I have a Weezer song stuck in my head. It's been there all of 5 minutes and it's getting mighty old.

Also I went to the gym Monday night. Hoo-eee. was that crowded. Carpe cross-trainer...

I'm sure there was more stuff but that's all I can think of right now.

sigh

dianec42: Joshua tree against a blue sky (Princess)
If you were a cat, where would you be hiding?

I'm sure Princess was in the house when we left this morning. But I've been home over 2 hours and can't find her anywhere...

Edit: No idea where she was, but she wandered out nonchalantly about an hour later. Cats!

We think we know what kind of cat Princess is! [livejournal.com profile] stuartc came across this photo of a Norwegian Forest Cat on wikipedia. Does that look like anyone we know?!
