Boosted!

I got my Moderna booster (over the original J&J from April) yesterday. Also got my first-ever flu shot in a separate incident.

The pharmacy where I got my booster had both Hello Kitty AND Pikachu band-aids. Decisions, decisions.

Stuart had already been boosted a couple of weeks ago. We did go together for flu shots organized by his workplace. Why yes, I DID wear a League of Legends face mask on Blizzard campus. (Hey, it amused me.)

So far I feel like I've been punched in one arm (the Moderna one). No soreness on the flu-shot arm. No other adverse effects apart from a crick in my neck and a shortage of sleep because it turns out the sore arm is the one I normally like to sleep on.

Are we there yet?

This blog is kind of nifty.

https://standarderrors.substack.com/

It's got data science in it, and data, and science. It also has the real world in it so it's often depressing. However, the author has an attitude of mixed cynicism and optimism that I am finding super refreshing right now.

Of particular interest are the posts on why NOT to watch election predictions, and the recent one on why Covid is wrecking (certain parts of) Los Angeles.

Don't forget to drive your car once a month or so.

And put on earrings once a month or so, just to make sure you can. Heck, maybe put on earrings to go drive the car.

If I were a true friend I would have posted this in April... sorry friends...

Cross stitch finished object "Su Casa"

I designed it myself, using graph paper and software (Jane Greenoff Gold from around 2002 which I HATE and really need to upgrade to something reasonable, bu I digress). I stitched the house on the right and decided I hated the contrast, so the house on the left is a shade darker. I stitched using an unholy amalgam of Anchor and DMC threads from my stash.

I'm planning on updating the chart to show (DMC versions of) the colors I actually used, then releasing the chart as a PDF. Who knows, maybe Reddit will like it and other people will do it.

A friend of mine want to know if I'm selling them. LOL! I am slow and easily distracted and we'd probably be halfway through the NEXT pandemic before I complete another one. It was fun though.

Taking a meme that's going around and adding a question or two at the end!

1. Are you an Essential Worker?

No.

2. How many drinks have you had since the quarantine has started?

I've been getting through about a bottle of wine a week. We don't have a ton of booze in the house so I'm trying to make it last.

3. If you have kids... Are they driving you nuts?

No kids.

4. What new hobby have you taken up during this?

Nothing new. I'm using my sewing machine to make a lot of masks.

5. How many grocery runs have you done?

None yet, we've been playing delivery roulette with our local Ralphs and cooking whatever actually shows up.

6. What are you spending your stimulus check on?

We make too much money so we're not getting one from the government, which is fine. I got a stimulus payment from my employer to spend on work-from-home things - I think they're thinking computer hardware, but mine will go on stuff like note pads and highlighters. I should buy some fancy pens.

7. Do you have any special occasions that you will miss during this quarantine?

My husband's birthday is coming up, so we'll have to be creative about that. We were supposed to go on a cruise in May, which is obviously cancelled.

8. Are you keeping your housework done?

As much as ever.

9a. What movies have you watched during this quarantine?

No movies, but a little TV. Lots of old King of the Hill, one episode of Better Call Saul (it still doesn't really grab me), and the new season of Killing Eve.

9b. What are you reading right now?

I picked up a novel called "Trust Exercise", can't remember why. Also had several non-fiction books in progress already - Invisible Women, The Poison Squad, and Fifty Things That Aren't My Fault.

9c. What video games are you playing?

Teamfight Tactics (I'm terrible at it), the occasional League of Legends ARAM (even worse at this), quite a bit of World of Warcraft (leveling all the alts!). So many phone games - Boggle and Words with Friends mostly.

10. What are you streaming with?

Netflix and Amazon Prime

11. Nine months from now is there any chance of you having a baby?

Ha ha ha ha ha! No.

12. What's your go-to quarantine meal?

Cheesy mashed potatoes with brisket chili.

13. Is this whole situation making you paranoid?

Not at all. I don't feel like anyone is out to get me in particular. (Then again I've barely left the house.) I do think our current government is out to get My People (and My People Adjacent) but I felt that way before.

14. Has your internet gone out on you during this time?

Only for about 5 minutes.

15. What month do you predict this all ends?

No clue. I'll probably go back to the office around July or August, but things won't be back to "normal" until some time in 2021.

16. First thing you're gonna do when you get off quarantine?

Go out to lunch with a friend.

17. Where do you wish you were right now?

At the gym.

18. What free-from-quarantine activity are you missing the most?

Shopping.

19. Have you run out of toilet paper and hand sanitizer?

Not yet. We're not going out so we're not using the sanitizer we do have. We probably have 2 months' worth of TP but we're definitely being conservative with our usage.

20. Do you have enough food to last a month?

Yes, although it might get weird if we have to stretch it that far.

21. Biggest surprise?

I'm still putting on pants pretty much every day.

22. Any regrets?

About a month before this all kicked off, I posted on Reddit asking what the best lounge pants are for non-supermodel-height women. I got a ton of leads but I never actually followed up. So now when I schlub around, it's in either pajama pants of my own making, or my circa-2005 New York Laundry jogging pants that are literally falling apart. (NONE of which have pockets!) I wish I had gone to the mall and tried on everything while I had the chance.
