Meanwhile, in sporting news...
Aug. 16th, 2005 12:53 pmRubens Barrichello has been confirmed for BAR in a multi-year contract. Yay, I think.
Or to use all of the abbreviations that the broadcasters use: BAR (BRA) to race for BAR! That should save them some on typesetting.

some more bits about the trip
Aug. 16th, 2005 07:27 pmThe weather in Glasgow was ridiculously sunny and actually quite hot.
stuartc and I tried to take credit for bringing the nice weather with us.
Stuart remarked at one point that he would be disappointed if we didn't see any rain. Well, we got our wish -- there were some moments whilst driving across the Pennines that we didn't see anything BUT rain. (Luckily the road went straight there.)
Oddly, the WH Smith at Heathrow had a far superior selection of Iain (M) Banks books than the one in Glasgow. I didn't see "Raw Spirit" anywhere though -- good job we already have a copy! One of the duty-free shops did have the Cuban-barrel-aged Glenfiddich variant that he mentioned that you can't get in the US. (We decided against it on the grounds that it was well overpriced and *only* Glenfiddich. Never even mind if US Customs got nosy...)
We did not make it to Dundee to see our house which we still own and are renting out, nor had we particularly planned to. I'm not sure if this is because it would have been pointless, or heart-wrenching, or both.
Meanwhile, in the here and now, I didn't make it to the gym tonight either. I seem to be coming down with some sort of cold or sore throaty thing, so it probably wouldn't do to knock myself out exercising. And I might still be a little jet-lagged (or a lot short on sleep). My temperature is 99.0 degrees, which for me is quite impressive. Someone please wake me when I'm all better.
