Among other things, apparently Toyota knew the tyre situation was going to be fatal, and that's why they sent Trulli out on absolutely no fuel to grab that historic pole.

I've never read "Ted's Indy Notebook" before. Does he actually know what's going on inside of Toyota, or is he making assumptions that they must know something because they hired an former Michelin employee?

He would have told his new team through his contacts that the tyres in question had been made with an inferior batch of materials.
