stuartc was kind enough to look on the web to see whether any of the local game stores had World of Warcraft in stock... apparently the massive Christmas shipments have also pretty much sold out. A GameStop in Torrance was alleged to have 4 copies; I made the mistake of not phoning and asking them to hold one for me, and when I got there they had sold their last copy 2 hours earlier. Son of a...! However, they were kind enough to phone a branch in the nearby Del Amo mall, where they had one copy left (which they held for me). I even found the mall with relatively little trouble (although the car park is ridiculously hard to get into). I bought World of Warcraft, stopped in at the Body Shop next door and bought some of the scary blue shampoo for
stuartc, and then headed in the direction I thought was probably north.
The direction I thought was probably north turned out to actually BE north, to my eternal surprise. I even passed a couple of entrances to the 405; sadly, these were not very well marked, which is why I passed them rather than using one. So I did in fact end up driving past
Fry's on the way home, even though they're sold out of WoW (allegedly; I didn't actually go in to check). All in all, quite a lot of successful seat-of-the-pants navigation, and I did eventually end up knowing where to turn...
