stuartc and I just came back from seeing the Aquabats and three other bands, including That One Guy, the Aggrolites, and apparently Reeve Oliver (that last, I had to look up on the venue's web site). I have to say, That One Guy was amazing - yes, it was one guy, making more noise than some entire bands I've heard, mostly on a fiendish contraption that looked like an unholy cross between a couple of Chapman sticks and a demented robot arm, only with more cables coming out. (The roadies did *not* know what to do with that, which was equally funny once he went off.) The second band, which I'm assuming must have been Reeve Oliver, were completely lame and useless, although they did have the biggest bass player I've ever seen in my life. The Aggrolites were all right, though they were FAR too white to be singing about "reggae from the ghetto" - come ON, give me a break.
The Aquabats were very, VERY good. Oddly, there were only five of them - I was sure there were supposed to be more like eight. Still, they were very energetic, very silly, and I even knew some of the songs. OMG was it crowded though. And I'm going to have a ringing in my ears for days. But oh, it was worth it.
