Singing the praises of
sharikkamur
Nov. 29th, 2004 01:17 pmOne of the first things many people notice about Nik is her singing voice. And with that glorious room-filling soprano, how could you not? She also sings a mean tenor. Despite the fact that she knows loads of songs, she frequently feels the need to make up more.
Nik is one of the smartest people I know. Not only can she figure out just about anything, she's frighteningly knowledgeable. Whether it's embroidery, fencing, astrophysics, music, computing, or any of a dozen other topics, she knows more about *each* of these than just about anyone else I know. Somehow she manages not to be a know-it-all; in fact, she is also a fantastic teacher. I've seen her teach goldwork and banner-making to classes of complete beginners; and she lectures in computing for a living.
Nik is the most fearless of leaders. Last year she left her confortable existence in Scotland to move to Iceland, of all places! Where, I may have mentioned, she lectures in computing. I admire her for having the guts to do either one of those things, let alone both at once. Nik is always taking on new projects... nothing is impossible for this woman.
Nik was one of the first people I met when I moved to the UK. She made me feel very welcome and very much at home. She is warm and generous and caring, and she is always there for those she loves.
Nik is an awesome person and one of my best friends. Huzzah for Nik!
