I couldn't help but notice evidence of your assimilation into Brit-culture, and after only a few years. I don't know any 'mericans who say "maths." We shorten mathematics to "math."
I can't help it... The Reg is a British site, and if I spend 5 minutes talking to Brits (or even reading them) I slip straight into it. (I also get to practice my Proper English around the office, where we have a Northern Irish guy and some sort of Aussie or Kiwi type, both of whom are too polite to laugh when I screw it up.) Even in my LJ I tend towards British spellings and usages when replying to my British (Irish, Northern Irish, etc) friends.
I know I wasn't there long enough -- anything said in a British accent still sounds instantly smarter to me. And I still thought it was incredibly cute how everyone on the telly had British accents. *That's* how short a time I was there... sigh.... darnit, now I'm pining for the sheep again!
What is this "telly" of which you speak? Is it a British contraption?
It is indeed a British contraption, with marvellous properties. These days it is capable of showing at least FOUR BBC channels, and overall it's capable of producing a great deal more amusing and/or thought-provoking content (not to mention INFINITELY more Jonathan Ross) than this American "television" thingy.
It typically has much nicer resolution too. I miss it terribly!

Though I could be wrong.
