Soothing the savage breast
Feb. 16th, 2006 01:21 pmFew things are less dignified than a 40-year old woman driving with the windows down in February[*], "Rock Lobster" cranked up on the radio, singing along and doing the car dance.
Luckily I am old enough to not care. If I had kids, they would be SO embarrassed by me.
[*] Okay, it's February in Torrance. It's 60 degrees F... half the populace is still running around in down jackets shivering.

Date: 2006-02-16 11:45 pm (UTC)They don't have DJs. Instead they have recorded voice snippets between songs. Most are harmless blurbs such as "93.1 Jack FM - Playing what we want!" but every now and then they are more random and amusing. My favourite so far: "If you just said 'What the hell was that?' out loud, say this out loud: '93.1 Jack FM'!"
(Where was I going with that? Oh yes...) I find the radio is actually more likely to cheer me up than if I put on a CD, just because of the elements of randomness and surprise. Having said that, some of the mix CDs I make for band research are pretty random, so those work well sometimes too. But generally, music doesn't cheer me up as well unless it sneaks up on me.

Date: 2006-02-17 03:46 pm (UTC)And your big friends list... sorry... (-:
I like the randomness. I like the lack of wittering DJs -- shock horror, I can actually listen to MUSIC instead of some dreadful Morning Show. And I can't help it... I like the music. (Much of it, anyway. Some of it is head-clutchingly bad.)
