dianec42Went to the DMV this morning... first problem, finding the place. (Zeroth problem, finding the 405 from Centinela. Typical half-baked signage...) Advice for anyone driving to the LA branch: that road with the sign that shouts "110 ONLY" in huge scary letters is actually Hope Street.
Does anyone else find it hilarious that the Department of Motor Vehicles is on Hope Street, by the way? It would seem more appropriate to be on something like Desperation Alley, or possibly Skid Row (sorry, couldn't resist!).
I didn't have to take a road test because I had a license in Massachusetts. The fact that said license expired in 2002 doesn't seem to enter into it.
I missed 2 questions on the written test (one is allowed to miss 6 out of the 36 questions on the first attempt, but only 3 on subsequent attempts, which seems fair enough).
I have a lovely temporary license that is good for 60 days.
I also have a fabulously technical-looking form that I must take to an eye doctor, who will then certify that of COURSE I can see well enough to control an automobile, thank you very much, and once I return said form to the DMV they will undoubtedly come up with some other perfectly good reason why... nah, at that point they'll probably just give me a license.
It's even more complicated than the form they give you in Maryland. I'm kind of impressed (obviously in an irritated sort of way).
On the bright side, I got some good practice with my LA driving in the process. (Including the obligatory suddenly-needing-to-get-across-three-lanes maneuver, which everyone here is very good at. Seems I'm not the only one who finds the signage lacking...) I have a theory that you can tell when LA drivers are lost because that's the only time they actually signal...
