Belated birthday celebrations
Nov. 14th, 2004 12:55 pmMy birthday was mainly celebrated yesterday, a day late, because
stuartc could barely get out of working the entire weekend, much less a Friday. First we did a spot of necessary shopping, filling the car with necessities like wastebaskets and dish drainers and suchlike; then we headed into Santa Monica and shopped at the ever-dangerous Michael's Crafts for my presents: a lovely blue-and-purple sewing basket, and a cross stitch kit called "Magnificent Wizard" by Don Maitz! Ooooooooh, pretty. (And if I thought white on white was a PITA, just wait until I have to do navy blue on black. 18 count. I'm already planning on how to cope with the resulting blindness.)
A great deal of other shopping ensued; then we came home and unloaded the car and looked for local restaurants. (How did we ever get by before we had the Internet?) We bypassed the local Thai place because the health department only gave it a B rating, and ended up at a steak house whose name I cannot currently remember, which is embarrassing as it is officially our New Favourite Restaurant In The Whole World (Or At Least Culver City). The food was absolutely wonderful; the service was efficient without being obtrusive; and the atmosphere was very, very homey - in the best possible way. The waitresses were well past middle age and called us "hon" and "dear". I slightly regret not saving room for dessert - oh well, next time.
Then we went to see the new Bridget Jones movie (which was a very fun bit of utter fluff) and came home and had Yet More Birthday Cake and drank Bailey's and watched CNN. Yow, are we middle-aged and boring yet?
Must go off and play in the sunshine now...
