* Air conditioning is indeed a boon to humanity. Huge swathes of Southern California would be uninhabitable without it. However... given that it's 85 degrees out, why do I feel the need for a parka in here?
* Auto-flush toilets are the work of the devil.
* CVS... speaking of things that do things they "think" you want, and give you no obvious way of turning those off.
* The UI for the climate control in my car was designed by a committee of monkeys on crack.
* Google Maps is unable to plot driving directions from Anaheim to Newport Beach.
* The GenCon SoCal web site cheerfully says "Register now!" on the front page despite pre-reg having ended last Monday.
* My shiny new PC mouse has a habit of joyously dancing to random points on the screen at odd moments.
* Bonus complaint: This past Saturday we discovered the maps in my car's satnav are amusingly out of date. I have a to say a couple more well-placed signs would have worked wonders.

No; it's those "low flow" toilets. I call them, "low efficiency."

Yep, let's save water by installing a toilet you have to flush FOUR TIMES to get everything to go down.

(Ours don't seem particularly "low flow", but some days you have to do that anyway. So what do they upgrade? Automatic flushers. What a mean thing to spring on the sleepy people first thing on a Monday morning BTW.)

Just the badly designed ones. Check out
this PDF (http://www.cuwcc.org/Uploads/product/MaP-Final-Report.pdf)
for lots of info on which toilets clear simulated loads (soybean paste), and how well
(with pictures!). The study corroborates my own experience that powerflush (AKA
pressure assist) toilets do the job wonderfully. My next toilet will be one.

They are in good company. I remember when the press discovered that the air force was shipping truckloads of rocket fuel (some of the nasty stuff, not something like hydrogen) through LA, to get from somewhere near San Deigo to the Palmdale area, the air force responded that they couldn't find any other route.

(They did take care of the public outcry by switching to unmarked tankers!)

I know thate [livejournal.com profile] tobyaw got a new CD for his car navigation system with updated maps. Try asking if a newer CD/DVD is available as a spair from the dealers parts department. Might not be that expensive.

It's a possibility. I know from work that Honda charges something like $200 for a new disc... I shudder to think how much Lexus will charge.
