Watching far more TV than usual
Sep. 5th, 2022 12:10 pmI keep saying I don't like watching TV. The theme for recent viewing is "That was way better than I expected". Mostly...
Lord of the Rings - The Rings of Power (Amazon Prime)
2 episodes in and I'm really enjoying this. I'm not enough of a Tolkien nerd to pass judgment; but it's pretty, the characters are interesting and believable, and the scenery is stunning. The different peoples of Middle-Earth are vividly brought to life - the cultures (including speech, accents, costumes...) are rich and interesting.
She-Hulk, Attorney at Law (Disney+)
Not gonna lie, I had zero expectations for this. It's... actually good?!
Extraordinary Attorney Woo (Netflix; in Korean with subtitles)
Continuing the lady lawyer theme. This is about a young lawyer with autism in Korea. Three episodes in. Autism-wise it feels pretty true to life. Plot-wise so far it's kind of like "House M.D." but with lawyers and the main character isn't an asshole.
Resident Alien (some network; Youtube TV)
This has gotten surprisingly good. A lot of the character interactions are still forehead-slappingly stupid, but the plot has taken an interesting turn and some of the characters are growing and developing in surprising ways.
The Orville (Disney+, originally on Hulu)
Watched all of season 3. It's still pretty lighthearted but developed some surprising depth. Really enjoyable.
Game of Thrones dragon thing (HBO)
2 episodes in, I've given up. It's very pretty. It has dragons. It has at least one reasonably likeable major character. The costumes and the visuals are amazing.
On the other hand, it's as filled with gore and needless cruelty as one would expect. Most the characters are neither likeable nor interesting enough to love hating. The accents are ridiculously all over the place (looking at you, Matt Smith). It's just not worth my attention.
