Unless you're talking about hetersexuals fraught with extreme danger, of course, in which case 'dire straights' would be a correct usage.

If only I could extract a nickel from every internet nimnul who confuses "your" and "you're."
There was a time, before Webster perhaps, when that confusion would not have existed. You could even say it was back in the days of yore.
