Latest piece of music is driving me insane. Band-in-a-Box™ is psychotic (which I knew) *and* I can't @$#%! remember how to use it, *and* the manual is also deranged.

I am hopelessly out of it. Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced piece of software that will let me just type in the damn notes and it'll play them back for me? Ideally for the Mac, but could be useful on the PC as well (this might actually be MORE useful at the office).

Either that, or a metronome and a soundproof room (and possibly a straitjacket) are in my future. Argh.

I use Finale NotePad (http://www.finalemusic.com/notepad/), which is available for Mac, PC and even has a separate downloadable reader for distributing files.

Double argh! I've got it, it works and it's lovely, except it is playing back WAY too quietly! I have the sound all the way up on the Powerbook and I can barely hear it. I can't believe this silly thing doesn't have its own volume control somewhere. Have you run into this at all?
