I am increasingly convinced the Girl from Ipanema is an evil song. While I applaud the use of "C-flat" instead of "B" when necessary, I am appalled at the use of "G-flat" and "F-sharp" within mere measures of each other. I'm telling you, now they're just makin' sh*t up.

Jobim wrote it as a very wistful song, full of uncertainty and desire. As a result, there are accidentals all over the place. Check out the chords where the G-flat and F-sharp are being used, to see which direction the singer should bend their inflections.

It's not his fault that Muzak made it their poster-child of blandification for elevators.

Whoever wrote the English lyrics did a damn fine start on the blandification. I must get around to digging up the original Portagee words to see if they're anywhere near as lame (sexist, glorifying of stalking, etc).
