Well, that's odd.
Aug. 29th, 2006 10:25 amDear World,
I find it odd when someone ends a post with, "Discussion?"; lively discussion ensues; and then the next thing I know, the discussion is all gone (as is the option to discuss).
That is all.
Love,
Me.

Date: 2006-09-07 07:03 am (UTC)First of all, I feel similarly that it is pretty high handed of the IAU to demote a planet. As I see it, the people of Earth may only lay claim to one sun and one solar system. In my opinion, anything that orbits The Sun is a planet. I could understand demoting Pluto if they found fifty things the size of Earth's moon orbiting The Sun and decided that if the others weren't planets, then neither could Pluto be. Maybe that's the case and I'm just unaware.
All I can say is that my first thought was probably similar to yours, that whatever organization that was silly enough to decided it was time to demote Pluto was probably either on crack or just looking for publicity.
As for ideas being slapped down, in the past week four people unfriended me because they did not relate to my sense of humor. Subsequently nine more of my LJ friends volunteered to join a filter whereby I can continue to express controversial humor in peace. That made me feel better.
I don't know if this will make you feel any better, but should I friend you, and should you friend me back you may want to create a "rants" filter and add me to it. I'd probably enjoy it. :-)
In the meantime, I'm sorry your discussion got off to a bad start. You could probably restart it simply by opting to "screen all comments", and if you feel you are being heckled, don't unscreen those. Better yet, you may wish to do as I'm doing and create a filter for, "less uppity readers".
In fact I probably will friend you as, from what I've seen so far, your LJ has all the qualifications I look for. Which brings up another point. Years ago I was introduced to NJ/NY Fannish circles as this really cool guy from MD and then shortly thereafter slammed by the same person as this really creepy guy from MD. At first I was humiliated, but I soon discovered that all the negative discussion about me actually caused many more people to be curious about me than ever had been before and as a result I made more friends than I'll ever be able to keep track of.
PS: checking your LJ I see that one of your mutual friends is actually one of the uppity people who upped and left (unfriended me) after I posted something she did not approve of. hmm.
