The annoying thing is when a retailer sends you an email with a tracking number telling you that your package has shipped, when really what they mean is that they've printed a shipping label and your package isn't even in the UPS system yet.
I'm much happier with shippers that wait until the package has actually left the building.
Amazon has a nifty thing embedded in their web page where you can just push a single button and track it right there. You don't have to go to ups.com and copy/paste the tracking number or anything. (I think it's particularly nifty because it actually works, at least in this case.)
