The article also says "MG was Britain’s last independent car manufacturer but had not produced a new model since 1998." The SV and ZS came out after 1998. Is Morgan still independent? What about TVR?

Too true. Contrary to popular opinion, US factory workers generally produce quality stuff.
The US-build VWs ran just as well as the German ones, but had nicer paint, fit, and finish.
Similarly with some of the US-built Japanese brand cars.
