I will just say, the whole purpose of doing stuff in pencil is kind of defeated when you have to get the highlighters out.

*wishes for a REALLY BIG whiteboard*

Okay, I'll add to that: data visualization is a giant PITA when you don't have a visual brain.

That's why there are tools like graphviz (free), wilmascope (free), OmniGraffle (not free), and AGII (formerly not free, now free).

Eh, I have Visio. I don't like having to choose which kinds of boxes to put where, especially when I'm not sure what the actual data boxes are going to look like. I may have mentioned that the whole visual thinking thing frequently defeats me.

I must say, that is the MOST adorable icon EVER.

I can also recommend Freemind (http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page) open source mind mapping software. And you're welcome to look at all of my lectures on data visualisation (http://notendur.unak.is/not/nicolaw/vis.html) if you think that would help.

That's why I like graphviz. I tell it the nodes and connections, and it finds an arrangement for me. Sometimes one that surprises me, and/or gives me information about my data that I didn't realize previously.

Saw the pic on [livejournal.com profile] dashing and snarfed it for icon fodder.
