Discoveries of the day so far

- The DMV is more efficient than our credit union. (Yikes.)
- Wow, some bits of the I-10 actually have exit numbers on the signs!
- It's a crazy mixed-up world. (Okay, I knew that one already.)
- When you spill cereal in the gap between the stove and the counter, the hair dryer is NOT actually the right tool for getting it out of there (which is a shame).
- *crunch* The grapes we bought last night are NOT seedless.
And of course the usual stuff, like "OMG it's November", but I'm probably not the first one to discover that, so it doesn't count.

Date: 2004-11-02 08:15 am (UTC)Back story: We have rather a lot of our own stuff in this furnished apartment. This means that things like the apron and the oven mitts are stacked precariously on top of the fridge instead of being put away sensibly, because there's just no place to put everything away at once.
So: bowl of dry, flaky cereal on the counter near the fridge. Oven mitts on top of same fridge. Milk, obviously, *in* the fridge. I get out the milk, close the fridge door... one poised oven mitt, which has obviously been waiting for the perfect moment, dives DIRECTLY into the middle of the bowl of cereal. Bits and flakes everywhere! Whee!
Several discoveries ensue: One, there's a nice gap between the counter and the stove, which (of course) now has loads of cereal in it. Two, the Oakwood-supplied vacuum cleaner is your basic floor model and has absolutely NO hoses or attachments whatsoever. Three, the bristles on the Oakwood-supplied whisk broom are just that little bit too short to get all of the stuff out of there.
After much caffeine and thought (and a break for driving all over downtown LA on silly errands), it occurred to me that if I couldn't suck the cereal out with the vacuum cleaner, maybe I could blow it out with the hair dryer. I mean, the thing must be good for *something*, right?
Alas, even on the "high" setting, all it did was cause a few flakes to flutter in place (it may have also lightly toasted them). Useless appliance!
I did get all the bits out of the stove burners, but the nice Oakwood people are just going to have to vacuum out these last few bits themselves once we move out. Let's hope the maids have their own, better, vacuums.
