Eek, a singer! (Where?!)

So around 11:00 I got an email from our fearless leader Jim, saying that "we" were getting together at lunchtime and jamming. This was news to me, and I replied saying I didn't have my bass with me, but maybe I could sing or something...
It turns out there is a spare 4-string just lying around the place that anyone can use. So I got that tuned up, plugged into the PA (no bass amp either, as this was apparently news to EVERYONE), shortened the strap as much as it would go, bitched mightily about the lack of a low B string, tried to remember how to play any songs whatsoever...
... and then Jim finally shows up and starts suggesting we do one of the Girl Singer songs! I raised my eyebrows, said "Sure, why not?", gave the bass to Dan, and SANG!
Then I found out what Dan had been doing with that laptop... he was RECORDING! Aaaaaaaa!
Happily, the second attempt sounded much less bad on playback than the first attempt did.
Then, wackier yet, I suggested we should sing the other Girl Singer song after that. And we did. And we only collapsed into helpless laughter once, at the very end. And the recording software did not work. So we did it AGAIN. And it was fun. And Dan didn't have a mic for the backing vocals so I held mine in his general direction. And he came out LOUDER THAN ME on the recording. And it didn't even sound too cringeworthy on playback. (Well, except for Paul's attempts at drumming. And some of Dan's more energetic falsetto. And my verbal prompts for some of the bass parts.)
I am also relieved to report that Dan did NOT learn the bass part to "Don't Speak" in the time allotted. This is good because it meant I didn't have to kill anybody.
That was fun! And no one clutched their head like a stunned monkey at my vocals on the playback except for me. Yay!
