a workaround on that tag thing

Apparently you can append "?skip=20" (or skip = up to presumably 80) and it'll show the older tagged entries...

http://www.livejournal.com/users/dianec42/tag/band?skip=60 for example...

Ever so slightly annoying, but helpful nonetheless.
