dianec42: Close-up of an electric bass guitar (Bass)

It's official: NO ONE knows how this song is meant to be played.

My web order of sheet music turned up yesterday; even in "Every Breath You Take" - The Singles, the written version of "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" is missing the fade-out.

Repeat chorus and fade, my ass!

I'd post the chord chart and become famous on the guitar boards, except that I have no idea what the hell the guitarists are doing on that part -- it's the bass that moves it, and I can no longer read fingers on fretboards across the room. Maybe I'll post the bass tab. Possibly under an assumed name, in case the Police Police come after me for revealing their secrets. (That would involve some sort of sting operation, I'm assuming...)

I'm thinking maybe I shouldn't have any more caffeine today. Who's with me?

Oy.

Now we know who needs the spanking ;).

Now who's got a butt fixation?

I might, in fact, say that perhaps you have had adequate caffeine for the day... :-)

I might be wrong about this...but it sounds a little bit to me (and I'm going by memory here, I don't own the song) that at the end they're repeating a riff from the beginning of the bridge in the middle ("I resolved to call her up...")

Nope! It is, in fact, Time For Something Completely Different.

If you pester me during the day tomorrow, I may post the tab. Don't have it with me on this computer.

Totally appropriate icon for this one though! (Recalls the episode of, "Don't stop! We've got it!" "We've got something, what the hell is it? .... It's got me, I can't stop!")

If it makes you feel any better, one of the reasons Sting broke away from the band (and damn near beat the living shit out of Stewart Copeland on-stage) is because they couldn't keep the rhythm line right either. Both that and "Roxanne". They "solved" the problem by wearing headphones which piped a recorded version of the rhythm into their ears while they were playing it.

At Sting's marriage to Trudy Styler, the band-mates got together for the reception and jammed on a number, which Sting had to wind down "because they were playing it wrong again, and it just wouldn't do to throw down at my own wedding".

Wow. That explains SO much. Thank you! (Source?)

Various articles in Rolling Stone; I have no idea whether they're archived on-line.
