I figured out how to turn off the annoying hovery thing that says "So-and-so is your mutual friend" and "This is you" and other such useless nonsense:

From any page where you get the normal LJ menu bar (like your user info page), do "Profile" / "Edit Profile"; then where it says "You may also want to edit your comment settings or your viewing options" click the "viewing options" link. Near the bottom there's a check box that says "Contextual Popup" -- turn that off and click the "Save Changes" button at the bottom, and Bob's your uncle.

But I kind of like the hovery thing.

I have a double-first-cousin called Bob, and a nephew Robert who goes by Rob, but that's about it.

I use Firefox whenever I'm not absolutely forced to use (ugh) IE, and one of the best add-ons I found was Flashblock, which allows you to select whether or not each individual Flash animation will run.

The greatest Firefox add-in of all is, of course, Adblock.

adblock plus is bettah ;) it lets my flash animations that regular adblock sometimes breaks work :>

but adblock can also block flash as well...

i ALSO like some of the "converted embedded urls to grabbable content" tools, ya see, i don't automatically hate the videos/etc, i just want them inert until i do care to see them.

"session saver" is probably one of the best addons as well. lurve it.

greasemonkey and forecast fox are also pretty cool too.

FireFox 2.0 has a session saver built in.

It may or may not suit the needs of all the various users of all the various session-management add-ons.
