one busy weekend
May. 1st, 2006 10:06 pmSaturday morning was dragon boat practice… third of the season, second one I've made it to. I carefully applied loads of sunscreen to every exposed surface except one corner of my forehead, which caused it to rain, but only a little bit. I managed to knock myself out slightly less thoroughly than 2 weeks ago, which was nice and gives me hope for the future.
Saturday afternoon there was much boring shopping, including squeezing every pillow in Bed Bath & Bedamned at least twice each. Thankfully
stuartc drove, otherwise we likely wouldn't have made it out of the house.
Sunday we got together with a cow orker of Stuart's and his (the cow orker's) wife at the LA Times Festival of Books, which was great fun. We utterly failed to bring sunscreen or hats, and of course it was gorgeously sunny out (UCLA being somewhat inland of where we live, and thus not socked in by gloom quite so often). We both got lightly sunburned. Ooops. We also bought a reasonable quantity of books. Or, to hear some people tell it, a completely unreasonable quantity. Lightweights. (-:
Then it was decided that
stuartc was going to have his birthday a day early, because having your birthday on a Monday sucks, so I frantically wrapped presents, which he then immediately unwrapped. The trebuchet was a great hit! Next time I think I'll try and avoid having to wrap anything triangular though, that was a pain.
Books and presents were followed by slightly too much Indian food, then we watched last week's San Marino Grand Prix which Speed Channel re-ran and we had recorded. (We missed it when it was actually on; we were clueless that CBS was broadcasting that one, so I ended up recording the GP2 race instead, which was most disappointing. Very happy that Speed Channel re-ran it with their commentators, who are considerably less irritating than the CBS guys.) Then we made the mistake of seeing whether there was anything else on TV, and happened on a Mythbusters marathon. I fell asleep in front of the TV around 11:15.
Yay for a weekend of going out and doing lots of stuff, even if hardly any WoW was played at all (and I barely socialized with my new guildies at all). It did kind of torpedo any chance of my making it to the gym tonight, of course. Maybe tomorrow…
Oh and I went shopping tonight, and replaced my too-big size 38 dragon boating shorts with 32s. Yay!
