more perspective

I'm glad I have a home and a workplace that are standing intact. I'm glad that if the toilet doesn't flush everything down when I do #2, the worst that happens is I have to flush it again. I'm glad the temperature is topipng out in the mid-80s, and the worst I can say about the air conditioning at the office is that sometimes it works TOO well. I'm glad the freeways are in reasonably good condition and the worst I have to put up with is insane BMW drivers and the occasional traffic jam.

I am grateful for $3-a-gallon gas, sunshine, intact palm trees, and the rule of law.

Work has just announced matching donations for hurricane relief. Time to get off my ass...

Daring rescue falls flat, overexcitied rescuers forget where their towel is

So it turns out the new grey stray kitty who's been meowing her head off outside our front door all week (and whom we've been feeding) IS the one that went missing from the neighbours two doors down a while back. And said neighbours are FINALLY home at a decent hour when the kitty is hanging out. Doorbell rung; situ explained; daring rescue attempted!

Unfortunately we both forgot that Knowing Where Your Towel Is is *not* actually optional in this situation. Both a bit clawed up; cat last seen in the crawl space underneath the intervening house. Put out a dish of food in the vain hope she'd come out again; not gonna happen tonight.

Oh well, we've been feeding her, I'm sure she'll be back. Meanwhile... owie. This is gonna make practicing bass all kinds of fun.

Today is Princess's official birthday -- our little fluffy kitten is one year old! (The big furry spaz turned a year old last month.)

Happy birthday Princess!

(So do kittens officially turn into full-grown cats at one year, or is that dogs I'm thinking of?)
