No, "musical headache" does not mean the different headaches are taking turns or getting called "out" when they don't sit down fast enough.

I have just spent the past hour and a half wrestling with a piece of music. I have been given two pages of what is allegedly the bass part to the classic swing tune "All of Me". I will admit that my classical education has been lacking, and I am only passingly familiar with this piece (having heard a recording of it played approximately twice). I am further hampered by my sight-reading abilities being REALLY rusty -- particularly in bass clef; I had to pause several times and mutter "all cows eat grass... all cows eat grass...". Luckily no one was here to witness this apart from the cats.

I cannot get my head around this. This is a bunch of notes in semi-random order; a few of the bits repeat or are similar to one another, but there is nothing like an actual MUSICAL pattern or progression that I can discern. I cannot relate the notes on these pages to any piece of music I have ever heard or ever hope to play.

To make my joy complete, this is one of two or three pieces that cannot possibly be cut from the play list, as it involves a ridiculously high mucky-muck playing his saxophone (which I have also not yet heard, and I have no idea if he's even any good). Someone, please, just shoot me now...

While I'm up, why isn't "upset" in the default mood list?

I would go play World of Warcraft for a bit to ease my frustration, but SOMEONE installed a bunch of nifty UI mods for me and then left the country, so I somehow get the feeling playing will only make me more annoyed, not less...

You're not alone - I have to do the All Cows Eat Grass thing too. I hate the bass clef. With the recorder I cheat and rewrite the music in the treble clef. Actually with the recorder I cheat even further and transpose it so that it's the fingering that's the same as the descant recorder, not the actual note that's played.

So don't feel bad - you're actually doing it the RIGHT way. :)

Well, I had a breakthrough a while back with reading bass clef -- I discovered I could sight-read bass clef and COULDN'T sight read treble clef any more! (A bit like the eye patch for amblyopia as a kid -- the good news is, both of your eyes are now about equal; the bad news is, now neither one works right.)

On the bright side, I'm perforce getting much better at playing without looking at my fingers the whole time. (-:
