I feel an outburst coming on...

Luckily, just an outburst of creativity.

I think I've been reading too many of those crafty magazines, and have even taken something away from them other than the odd sensation of being hopelessly old and square.

Utterly random question: What do people think of "arts & crafts" type stuff in SF convention art shows? I sometimes look down my nose at such things, especially when there's no obvious SF theme; but it is certainly a way to get one's work out there.

It's unlikely to come to that, at least any time soon. But it is something that bears thinking about.

I've put embroideries in Art Shows before now. It was an Eastercon art show that actually inspired me to complete my goldwork dragon (based on the cover of one edition of McCaffrey's Dragonsong) in time for the next Eastercon.

So naturally I'd say go for it!

Thank you for the input!

I was hoping more people would comment, especially as I have a lot of friends-of-friends who put stuff in art shows, thus I was hoping some friends might have better knowledge of how such things work.

I shall just charge ahead then (or not, as busy-ness and laziness dictate). I'm sure that if I try to enter something in an art show that's wildly inappropriate, the right people will let me know. (-:

For some reason I have the urge to start creating cross-stitched bookmarks. The urge itself is not surprising, but it is still startlingly *specific*.

There is (almost) always a lot of marginal stuff, but I've seen some amazing glass and cast-metal items at the Darkover art show. Not so much good stuff at bigger cons for some reason. Of course, I know far too many long-time artists at Darkover as I've been going since Darkover VII, c. 1985(?), way back when it was still in Wilmington, DE.

If you get out this way anytime soon, let us know and we'll come look at your stuff or just get together for munchies.
