Perhaps this will inspire someone

I actually did get a new cross-stitch project started during the Worldcon, the "Seasonal Welcome" kit (can't remember which manufacturer it's from). Unfortunately I am not used to doing things in landscape orientation, so I started it sideways and had to take a bunch of stitches back out and start over.

I find it fitting, in an incredibly sad and nerdly way, that I started doing it during a Rudy Rucker reading... and did it in the wrong dimension.

Take heart - I have done that too. I got almost a full quarter of the design done before I realised... but I ended up just getting another piece of fabric and starting again. Good for you for unpicking! :)

I've done that several times, including my current Henry VIII project. Luckily, most've been close enough to square with enough fabric allowance that I could finish. The one exception I did have to frog about 4-5 hours of work :(
