Baseball for...

Okay, we have "Baseball for Dummies", and (according to [livejournal.com profile] stuartc) it doesn't properly cover the niceties of actual stats. (I haven't read it myself, but Stuart has, and I just had to explain to him what the batting average is!)

So! Can anyone recommend a good book along the lines of "Baseball for Complete Nerds"? Thanks much...

How about Stephen Jay Gould's Triumph And Tragedy In Mudville - A Lifelong Passion for Baseball? I haven't seen the book, but Gould was one of my favorite scientists, and he had a real love for the sport. I know he's written articles about baseball, but can't seem to find anything right now.
