The first link (mice/cheese) points to the Blackbird site.

Sorry about that. I hit the keys too fast or something... should be fixed now. (Mmmm cheese.)

The study is not new. 10-15 years ago, I read a similar study that said that mice prefered gum drops to cheese (cheese is bad for them. It has too much sodium)

When baiting a Havahart trap for mice, I'll usually use a quarter of a Reeses Peanutbutter Cup or shelled peanuts.

Well, besides using cheese as bait for a mouse is a waste of good cheese... ;)

"Cheese is bad for them. It has too much sodium."

Assuming that the trap you use is of the snapping kind, I think too much sodium is the least of their worries. And would a mouse really know that there's too much sodium? :)

But yeah supposedly peanut butter is a good bait as well.

Havahart (http://www.havahart.com/) traps are a wire mesh box with a trap door that close behind the critter when they start nibbling on the bait. It doesn't kill the critter.
